background

Artec Space Spider got its name because it was originally developed for the International Space Station. Its internal thermoregulation system allows the device to have faster heat dispersion and better ventilation than its predecessor, the Artec Spider, thereby preventing it from overheating and to perform at its utmost optimal performance when in use.

How the Space Spider Produces Accurate Results Everytime

graph on warm up period

How does the Artec Space Spider get such a high accuracy for a handheld 3D scanner? The system features powerful temperature stabilization and high grade electronics. It reaches maximum accuracy in just three minutes. This measure ensures long-term repeatability in 3D data capture while the accuracy rate of the device is not affected by fluctuations in the environment.

Why Choose Artec Space Spider?

  • Environmental conditions
Accuracy Not Affected By Environmental Conditions

Thanks to smart temperature stabilization, the Artec Space Spider maintains precision in a wide range of temperatures, and adjusts to any conditions in only 3 minutes, saving you precious time.

  • Caliper
Metrological Accuracy with Portability in Mind

Create highly accurate 3D models of small industrial objects or sections of larger objects in fine detail with the convenience of a handheld 3D scanner.

No Challenge for 3D Scanning Black and Shiny Surfaces

A nightmare for many 3D scanners, the Artec Space Spider digitizes reflective and dark surfaces in full color and with great resolution without a problem.

  • Target-Free 3D Scanning
    Target-Free 3D Scanning

Artec Space Spider uses hybrid geometry and color tracking methods for the best possible data capturing and faster data processing. No targets are required for accurate results.

  • No Calibration Needed
    No Calibration Needed

Artec Space Spider requires no calibration when you start 3D scanning. It’s as simple as using a video camera.

  • 6 hours of battery life
    Scan In Remote Locations

You can even scan in sites with no access to an electrical outlet. Simply connect the Space Spider to the Artec battery pack to power the 3D scanner for up to 6 hours (accessory sold separately).

Artec Space Spider

Artec Space Spider is the perfect solution for reverse engineering, additive manufacturing, quality control, and mass production where higher-precision scanning of objects with sharp edges and intricate details is required.

A Guide to Reverse Engineering

Take a look at the thought process behind reverse engineering a mechanical part assembly (an oil pump) with multiple components using the Artec Space Spider in this 5 part video series. This step-by-step video guide includes using a 3D scanner, exporting the scanned data of each component into STL file format, and importing it into SOLIDWORKS as a visual reference for design. There is also an accompanying written guide.

Accuracy testing

Accuracy Testing of the Artec Space Spider When 3D Scanning Tricky Objects

Our team put the Artec Space Spider under extreme tests to see how this handheld 3D scanner will perform when 3D scanning tricky parts. The scan objects we use in these tests are not what you would scan in normal situations. We wanted to push the Space Spider to its limits and see what would happen.

Get the Best From Each System

Did you know you can easily add more detail and accuracy to your 3D models by combining scan data from multiple scanners? For this bike frame, we scanned it using an Artec Eva for the larger areas and the Space Spider to get exceptionally detailed resolution, higher accuracy in specific areas–or when you need to scan a difficult-to-reach part of an object but are unable to scan it with just one scanner.
