Overview

Point2CAD makes it easy for engineers, industrial designers, machinists, to quickly capture geometry from physical parts and put it directly inside SolidWorks CAD environment for reverse engineering. The software allows you to easily create parametric solid models more efficiently. It is used in conjunction with a portable CMM to provide the convenience of capturing instant live data in 3D directly into SolidWorks.

Portable CMM

Point2CAD uses a Command Plate to eliminate the need to use a mouse and keyboard. The Command Plate can be printed on paper using a standard printer. All the commands for digitizing are located on the Command Plate. Touch the Command Plate icon with your probe and Point2CAD will cue the function in the software. This interface cuts the typical reverse engineering process in half, allowing for quick, reliable, and accurate reverse engineering of existing parts to CAD models.

Faro arms with USB connection, MicroScribe, Kreon, or Romer arms

SolidWorks 2010 SP1 – 2015 (32 or 64 bit)

Computer with Windows XP or later operating system

Features

You can easily define coordinate systems, probe features such as circles, slots and much more to generate your ideal model. Check your work or get guidance for defining tolerance by probing over the part using the deviation check function.

Sketch Entities: Sketch lines, circles, ellipses, splines, slots, planes and other elements with your measuring arm.

AutoSketch: Quickly sketch profile perimeters.

Probe Compensation: Automatically apply offset values to compensate probe tips.

Leapfrog: Reposition the measuring arm around larger parts.

Best-Fit Algorithms: Apply the optimal faces/entities to represent rougher surfaces.

Measurement Modes: Acquire single points or use continuous scan modes.

Deviations: Inspect and compare the part to the parametric model.
